Okay so the universe is trying to do one of two things: Make my schoolwork way easier to pick up on, or using my schoolwork to make me want to do other stuff. I'm hoping it's the first one.
It all started when I was doing my history homework (I think it's mostly my history class doing this too!) for the first day. We had to read the first chapter in each of our textbooks (they're small textbooks) and that was about it. Well, the first chapter of the one was pretty much a very large excerpt from the Edict of Nantes (yay old french rulings by the kings to get the religions to stop fighting!). Now if I am reading long boring documents I don't understand (say things that are written in ye olde Edict styling) I will end up zoning out after I realize I don't get it, and just skimming, trying to get the gist of things. Doing this, I pick up mostly on the main ideas and leave things alone, unless I come across stuff I actually understand.
Apparently, 'stuff I understand' includes "stuff that in context means one thing, but today means something totally different". As such, the king of france was decreeing that you are NOT TO MOLEST THE PROTESTANTS (I'm talkin to YOU, marzipan_yumyum
!). He also does said lots of stuff about exercising in the proper places. Towards the end, he ended up saying that no preacher or reader was allowed to proposition or excite the people (once again, marzipan_yumyum
this is directed at you. and kinda wateryfowl
). Now, that ended with "to sedition" but I had to read it four times before I realized that.
I figured that was just a one-time incident of me being silly and thinking of totally different stuff than classwork...then we got seriously into history and civilization. We started talking about Mesopotamia...and the Mesopotamians. Some of which were named, oh I don't know, Sargon, Hammurabi and Gilgamesh
. Oh, did I mention that at the same time, I ended up popping into one of my favorite Gaia hangouts and someone had a character named Ashurbanipal? Yeah, talk about strong urges to hear that song - I've had it stuck in my head for the past week!
Now, in psych class, we started reading about different theories of personality. Including Freud's theories, not limited to the theory about the id, ego and superego. Thiiiis brought up two things in my head. First of all, a comic called Young Justice
that my brother showed me (and if you must know, yes, my favorite is Impulse, the speedster in goggles who is eating fries on the first issue cover, why do you ask?). There was a point in the first issue where a character is explaining how they can and have to work as a team - they work like the ID, Ego and Superego
. At the time, I didn't understand the concepts, but as I was reading the definitions in my book, those panels popped up in my head again. For the record, the person describing it would be Red Tornado
and that would be my first experience with him (and no he's not Avatar the Last Airbender. shhhh). At the time I saw him, by the way, Impulse had spraypainted "Hanson Sucks" across his chest in blue spraypaint (since they thought he was just a robot) and he spent the rest of the comic with that written there (with one dude even remarking 'hey I like hanson')
Of course, after my brain's quick realization of that, it jumped to yet another thing I had heard the word in, but hadn't understood it: as wateryfowl
probably thought from the moment I mentioned the subject, I thought of the Shock Treatment song Look What I Did To My Id
Oh universe, what are you trying to do to my head?
P.S. I also randomly saw a car today that looked like a cross between Dillon's car and Scott's car but in green, and my brain went "Ziggy does not go to my school"....which was the second time I said it that day, since that morning, a guy whose voice hadn't broken yet was talking behind me and I had to stop myself and remind myself that power rangers characters do not attend my school. But I don't attribute that to the universe...unless you count that license plate I saw the other day that said "DGD-44" (which would be my nickname followed by Dillon's title from when he was held prisoner by Venjix. WTF?!?!?!)
